Gijón, 23 Sept. (EFE) .- The “tierrina” shares the leading role with Víctor Manuel in the new symphonic tour that the singer-songwriter from Mieres has organized for his 75th anniversary and which took him this Friday to the Teatro de la Laboral, in Gijón, in the first of three consecutive concerts offered in the Principality, with a dedicated audience and tickets sold out for months for all of them.
The first of the three performances of “Víctor Manuel Sinfónico”, which the artist proposes in his region, to be followed by another Saturday morning and closing on Sunday, began with the mythical “Asturias”, considered by many to be an unofficial hymn. of the autonomous community, followed by songs that exude the essence of their land with references to shepherds, pumpkins, coal, La Santina or towns like Gijón, Laviana or their hometown, Mieres.
Accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias (OSPA) and the choir of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, the Mierense delighted a devoted audience with its classic pieces, including “Porto la giallo shirt”, “El nonno Vítor” or la “Dance of the Cuélebre”.
The Asturian singer-songwriter, who according to what has been assured this week has no intention of retiring from the scene, re-proposes in his tour the songs from the recital “Vivir para sing it” and six others that he composed in the following years.
As in “Living to tell the tale”, this time a live album will also be recorded during the session tomorrow, Saturday, which the author trusts “will be released in one go and for the first time”.
The decision to do a concert like the one in 1999 was taken after Víctor Manuel’s sound engineer praised the quality of that recording, despite little evidence and means.
“I have the impression that now I sing better than 30 years ago, experience has given me some things, even if, it’s true, age has taken others away from me”, the singer-songwriter from Mieres assured this week.
